After ten years at Allina Health, Ken Paulus recently retired as the President and CEO of one of the nation’s largest integrated delivery systems — serving Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Allina consists of 13 acute care hospitals, a freestanding ED, over 100 ambulatory care clinics, and 1500 employed physicians. Allina boasts one of the most integrated and advanced information systems and has won the Davies award for its information systems innovation. Allina owns and operates 15 retail pharmacies, the region’s largest home care and hospice companies, a reference laboratory, DME company, and is a joint venture partner with two transitional care facilities and a geriatrics dual eligible risk company. Further, Allina is a Pioneer ACO and sponsors AIM – the Allina integrated medical network with over 3000 physicians under contract. Allina is the only AA credit in the Twin Cities market with 28,000 employees and revenues of $3.5B.

Prior to his time at Allina, Ken was the President and CEO of Atrius Health System, the largest integrated physician group in New England and a teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School. Atrius is also a Pioneer ACO and has over half of its revenues tied to global capitation.

Before his time at Atrius, Ken served as the Chief Operating Officer of Partners Community HealthCare – the integrated medical network representing Partners HealthCare System, the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Partners is a major teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School with 45,000 employees and revenues of $8B.

Ken spent the prior ten years in the California market – at Sharp Health Care and Alta Bates/Sutter.

He was born in Wisconsin, raised in Chicago and attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota.
